Hong Kong’s new Kai Tak Sports Park complex has agreed a sponsorship deal with CTF Life, while the WACA Ground in Perth has partnered with Bunnings Warehouse.

CTF Life (Chow Tai Fook Life Insurance Company Limited) will serve as the exclusive founding insurance partner of Kai Tak Sports Park, which is set to officially open in the first quarter of 2025.

Kai Tak Sports Park will become the largest integrated sports and entertainment complex in Hong Kong. Last week, HSBC signed on as the first major sponsor of the complex as part of a long-term deal.

The 28-hectare site will consist of three main venues: Kai Tak Stadium, Kai Tak Arena and Youth Sports Ground. CTF Life will become the presenting partner of the Kai Tak Arena Grand Hall.

CTF Life is part of Chow Tai Fook Enterprises Limited, which last month concluded a deal to acquire New World Development’s stake in Kai Tak Sports Park. New World Development is a subsidiary of Chow Tai Fook Enterprises.

John Sharkey, project director at Kai Tak Sports Park, said: “We are delighted with CTF Life becoming the exclusive founding insurance partner of Kai Tak Sports Park and we are extremely grateful for this fantastic commitment.

“Together, we will aim to promote sports, culture, and tourism development through bringing in more international events, supporting ‘Fencing Plus’ training programmes in the community and enhancing professionalism with athlete development.”

The deal has been agreed as Kai Tak Arena prepares to host its first concert tomorrow (Friday). Around 5,500 tickets have been sold for the Chill Thai Music Festival, which will feature local boy band Mirror.

In other news, the WACA Ground has agreed a deal with Bunnings that grants the warehouse naming rights to a section of the stadium.

The deal will run until 2026 and designates the eastern and western grass banks of the stadium as the Bunnings Grass Banks. It marks the first official naming-rights partner for the upgraded WACA Ground.

The WACA Ground is currently in the midst of an A$168.9m (£84.1m/€101.7m/$105.7m) improvement project that will transform it into a multi-sport and community facility.

The stadium is being adapted as Optus Stadium has emerged as Western Australia’s premier international cricket venue in recent years. The north end of the WACA Ground will be revamped as part of the project, but the grass banks will remain in place.

Partnership signage will be displayed on the Bunnings Grass Banks for all men’s and women’s domestic fixtures across the 2024-25 season.

WA Cricket chief executive John Stephenson said: “The Bunnings Grass Banks have long been a favourite gathering spot for cricket fans across WA, bringing the community together to celebrate our great sport. Bunnings shares our passion for fostering community spirit and delivering the best experience.”

WA Cricket would consider a naming-rights partner for the stadium itself, but WA Cricket chair Avril Fahey has previously told local newspaper The West Australian that any sponsor name would only prefix the ‘WACA Ground’ moniker, which would remain in place.
