The venues of 19 sports have been confirmed for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games including baseball, cricket, and squash.

The three sports were all included on the programme after missing out on the previous edition at Paris 2024.

Baseball is set to return after last featuring at Tokyo 2020 and is due to be played at the 56,000-capacity Dodger Stadium.

The venue, which is home to Major League Baseball’s Los Angeles Dodgers, hosted baseball at the 1984 Olympic Games when it was a demonstration sport.

Cricket is set to make its first appearance at the Games since 1900 with men’s and women’s Twenty20 tournaments consisting of six teams each.

The sport is due to be played in a temporary, purpose-built structure at the Fairgrounds in Pomona.

Pomona is about 50km east of Los Angeles and the Fairgrounds is a 543-acre complex that has hosted the L.A. County Fair since 1922.

“We welcome the announcement of the venue for cricket at Los Angeles 2028 as it is a significant step towards the preparation for our sport’s return to the Olympics,” said International Cricket Council chair Jay Shah.

Squash is set to make its very first Olympic appearance in 2028 after being rejected on four consecutive occasions.

It is due to be played at Courthouse Square at the Universal Studios Lot in San Fernando Valley which has played host to Hollywood films such as To Kill a Mockingbird and Back to the Future.

“As one of the world’s most famous film studios, Universal Studios Lot in Los Angeles will present a unique and spectacular Hollywood setting for squash’s Olympic premiere, one which I’m sure will excite squash fans across the world,” said World Squash president Zena Wooldridge.

Cricket, baseball, and squash are three of five “new sports” alongside flag football and lacrosse, whose venues are yet to be finalised.

Joining baseball and squash in the City of Los Angeles cluster is 3×3 basketball, modern pentathlon, BMX freestyle and BMX racing, and skateboarding which are set to take place at the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area.

Boxing returns to the Olympic programme with preliminary bouts at the Peacock Theatre across from Crypto Arena which will host the final stages.

For the Games, the Crypto Arena is referred to as Arena in Downtown Los Angeles due to the International Olympic Committee’s ban on corporate sponsored names on venues.

This also applies to the Honda Center which will host volleyball as the Arena in Anaheim.

Venice Beach is due to stage triathlon as well as serve as the starting point for road cycling and marathon, with the exact routes yet to be decided.

Over in Carson, archery has been confirmed for the Dignity Health Sports Park. Beach volleyball, coastal rowing, target shooting, and sport climbing have been allocated to the Long Beach cluster.

Trestles Beach in San Clemente will stage the surfing competitions while Santa Anita Park in Arcadia is due to host equestrian.

The final venue announcement sees shotgun shooting placed around 22 miles away from downtown Los Angeles in South El Monte.

The Games’ venue plan was approved last week and included swimming to be held at SoFi Stadium.

In July last year, LA28 revealed host venues for 19 more sports, including badminton, golf and track cycling. This came after initial venue plans were revealed in June.
