Real estate developer, CDS Holding, has officialised its intention to submit an offer for Stadio Luigi Ferraris which is home to Italian football clubs Genoa and Sampdoria.

The company aims to purchase and redevelop the 33,205-capacity stadium and has presented its plans to the Municipality of Genoa.

The two teams have also seen the projected works.

“Both clubs confirm their support for a project to renovate the stadium and transform it into a multipurpose arena capable of hosting sporting events and large-scale demonstrations,” read a joint statement from Sampdoria and Genoa.

“Sampdoria and Genoa therefore reiterate their mutual desire to support the city and especially their fans in this important redevelopment process.”

In January, it was reported that there are two alternative solutions being considered. Firstly, that Genoa and Sampdoria could assume ownership of the stadium on a 50-50 basis, or a new concession agreement will be drawn up.

Stakeholders are hoping that work can be completed in 2029, allowing the Ferraris to be a host stadium for Italy’s joint staging of UEFA Euro 2032 with Turkey.

The stadium is the oldest in Italy after opening in 1911, and it was used during the country’s staging of the 1990 FIFA World Cup.

Genoa has played at the Ferraris since it opened, with Sampdoria having called the stadium home since 1946.
