Swedish construction company Skanska has agreed a deal with the Municipality of Landskrona to build a new football stadium and indoor swimming centre.
The venues will be located in the Karlslund area of the town. The stadium will have a capacity of 6,800, while the swimming complex will feature a 50-metre pool and a 25-metre pool.
Skanska said the contract to build the two venues is worth around SEK580m (£45m/€53m/$58m). The company has been carrying out preparation work in collaboration with the municipality since last summer.
The project will form part of a larger development of the Karlslund recreation area. Construction is scheduled to begin in August, and it is hoped the stadium will be ready in 2027 before the swimming centre opens in 2028.
The town is home to second-tier football club Landskrona BoIS. The team plays its home matches at Landskrona IP, which is owned by the municipality and would be replaced by the new stadium.
In November, Skanska entered into a partnership with the City of Malmö to transform the Malmö Stadion site into a modern facility for athletics and football.
First opened in 1958 as a venue for Sweden’s hosting of that year’s FIFA World Cup, Malmö Stadion has been earmarked for demolition for nearly a decade, but still sits adjacent to Eleda Stadion, which opened in 2009 as the new home of Allsvenskan football club Malmö FF.
