A new ‘climbing forest’ adventure area has opened next to Deutsche Bank Park, home of Bundesliga football club Eintracht Frankfurt.
The space opened last week, with around 100 employees from the stadium’s naming-rights sponsor, Deutsche Bank, having the chance to sample the facilities. Deutsche Bank is also sponsoring the climbing park.
The various courses feature 150 climbing elements, spanning a total of two kilometres. The courses are divided into easy, medium and difficult categories.
Highlights include a cable-car course with a skyline view, a partner course that can only be completed in pairs, and a “particularly challenging” course that is only open to people aged 12 and over. Several low-level climbing trails are also available for children aged four years and older, as well as beginners.
The space features five “mega-towers” that are 29 metres high. The tower platforms provide views of Deutsche Bank Park and the Frankfurt skyline.
Mayor of Frankfurt Mike Josef said: “This climbing park offers our citizens a completely new perspective on our city, quite literally, and complements the already extensive sports cluster. Here, in the immediate vicinity of our sports park and the Stadionbad swimming pool, everyone – from young to old – can demonstrate their skills and abilities in a mix of fun and challenge. This is a great recreational programme, especially for families and groups.”
Patrik Meyer, managing director of Eintracht Frankfurt Stadion, added: “The opening of the climbing forest is another milestone in our partnership with Deutsche Bank, which is naming the entire site. With its diverse offerings, the park-like area is increasingly becoming a meeting place in the region.”
Last month, Frankfurt City Council approved the development of a new multi-purpose arena on land currently occupied by parking lots that serve Deutsche Bank Park. It is expected to seat between 12,000 and 13,000 fans for sporting events, with capacity rising to 15,200 for concerts.
The arena would serve as the home of Frankfurt’s basketball and ice hockey teams. When approving the project, the council noted that out of the 10 largest cities in Germany, Frankfurt is the only one without a major arena.
