Italian Serie A club Como 1907 is set to increase the capacity of the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia to around 12,000 from the start of next season.

The stadium underwent significant renovation work last summer ahead of Como’s return to Serie A. This increased the capacity of the Sinigaglia from 7,498 to 10,584.

Il Giorno has now reported that the capacity will increase further next season, with around 1,200 more seats to be added. The right-hand section of the away fans stand is also set to be reopened.

This season marks Como’s return to Serie A following a 21-year absence. The Sinigaglia has served as the club’s home since it opened in 1927.

The stadium is situated on the shores of Lake Como and is widely considered to be one of the most picturesque settings in world football, but it required substantial work to be ready for hosting Serie A matches.

As a result, Como played the first three matches of the season away from home, eventually returning to the Sinigaglia for a fixture against Bologna on September 14.

Last month, the club, along with the Municipality of Como and Populous, presented initial concepts for the redevelopment of the Sinigaglia, with the goal of ensuring the venue remains “a vital part of the community”.

An expected timeline for the redevelopment has been set out for the design and approval process to be complete by May 2026, followed by a two-stage construction project.

The first phase would be complete by October 2027, with a targeted project completion of August 2028. Details on capacity and cost have yet to be officially disclosed, but Como is believed to be targeting a new-look Sinigaglia with a capacity of between 15,000 and 20,000. The club’s owners, the Hartono brothers, are expected to provide the majority of funding.
