Neo Química Arena gains capacity increase

Neo Química Arena, the home of Campeonato Brasileiro Série A football club Corinthians, will have its capacity increased to 48,905 for the 2025 season after a police report approved plans to release more seats for fans.

The capacity increase will be made possible without expanding the stadium. In total, 1,060 more fans will be able to attend matches.

The north stand will have 83 more seats, while the south and lower east sections will have an extra 212 and 50 seats, respectively. The lower west will accommodate 203 more fans, and the upper west will have 50 more seats.

Some 462 more seats will be made available in boxes. The upper east section is the only part of the stadium where no new seats will be available.

The increase has been announced following the release of a new security report from the Military Police in São Paulo. According to Brazilian news outlet Maquina do Esporte, the increase in capacity could earn Corinthians more than R$2m (£277,000/€335,000/$350,000) per season in extra revenue from ticket sales.

In September, Neo Química Arena became the first Brazilian stadium to host a regular-season NFL game, as a sold-out crowd of 47,236 watched the Philadelphia Eagles defeat the Green Bay Packers 34-29.

In October, Corinthians reached an agreement with the Gaviões da Fiel fan group and Caixa Econômica Federal to pay off debt related to the development of the stadium.

Neo Química Arena opened in 2014 ahead of Brazil’s staging of the FIFA World Cup later that year. The stadium was fitted with temporary stands for the World Cup, taking its capacity up to more than 63,000.
