Construction work has commenced on a wide-ranging upgrade project at Dignity Health Sports Park, home of Major League Soccer team LA Galaxy.
The stadium will undergo a four-year renovation, with the first phase of the project due to be completed in February in time for the 2025 MLS season.
The project will focus on enhancing the fan experience and elevating the existing premium seats and spaces at the stadium. Dignity Health Sports Park opened in 2003 as Home Depot Center and was known as StubHub Center from 2013 to 2018.
LA Galaxy and Dignity Health Sports Park gathered feedback from fans to inform the decision-making around upgrades for the stadium. The entire lower bowl of the stadium will be reseated, while renovations will be carried out at restrooms and concession stands.
New premium seats and spaces will include Fieldside West seats, the West Terrace Cabana and Platinum seats.
Katie Pandolfo, general manager of Dignity Health Sports Park, said: “Dignity Health Sports Park has always been a place where unforgettable moments happen, and these renovations will elevate the experience for our fans, players, and community. This project reflects our commitment to providing a world-class venue that exceeds the needs of the modern sports and entertainment landscape while honouring the rich history of this iconic stadium.”
Dignity Health Sports Park will also be used during the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, when it will host rugby and field hockey matches.
LA Galaxy recently won the MLS Cup for a record seventh time.
In other news, the University of Kansas has shared its latest vision for the second phase of its Gateway District project.
The project commenced in November 2023 and focuses on renovations to the west and north sides of David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, as well as the development of a conference centre in the stadium’s north bowl.
The second phase of the project will include the development of new retail, dining, parking, residential facilities and a hotel, along with development of the east grandstands of the stadium.
