Mauldin, South Carolina is set for a new 10,000-seat, multi-use stadium as part of a collaboration between the US city and two local soccer clubs.

The stadium will serve as the home of USL League One team Greenville Triumph and its affiliate team Greenville Liberty, which plays in the USL W League. It will form part of the city’s BridgeWay Station mixed-use development.

Plans for the stadium were announced yesterday (Wednesday) after a development agreement was signed with Hughes Investments. The stadium will also host lacrosse, rugby and American football games, as well as concerts, festivals and various community events.

The project is expected to cost between $80m (£62m/€74m) and $100m and will break ground in early 2025, ahead of a planned opening in 2026 to tie in with that year’s FIFA World Cup, which the US will co-host alongside Canada and Mexico.

The City of Mauldin has partnered with the state of South Carolina and Greenville Pro Soccer, the ownership group of Triumph and Liberty, on the project.

McCullers Group, an Ohio-based sports and real estate firm, will serve as the owner’s representative for the stadium project. McCullers has worked on predevelopment planning and represented Greenville Pro Soccer in development agreement negotiations.

As owner’s representative, the company will be responsible for project delivery, including procurement of the project team, design oversight, budget management, administration, and general owner advocacy.

Joe Erwin, chairman of the Triumph and Liberty, said: “This stadium represents the next chapter for our clubs. We’ve always envisioned a home that would not only serve as a place for soccer matches but as a gathering point for the entire community to enjoy an array of field sports, concerts and community events.”

Mauldin Mayor Terry Merritt added: “Our city has experienced tremendous growth over the last several years, and this stadium is another example of how we’re investing in the future. It’s more than just a stadium – it’s a community asset that will bring people together for a variety of events, from sports to concerts and beyond. We are excited to see this project come to life and can’t wait to share it with the community.”
