France’s Professional Football League (LFP) has announced that this year’s Trophée des Champions, which had been due to take place in Beijing on August 8, has been postponed.

The match between Paris Saint-Germain had been due to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between France and China, but it will no longer be held in Beijing.

In a short statement, the LFP said that the match has been postponed “to a later date” and will take place at a location yet to be determined.

The LFP did not give a reason for the postponement, but French newspaper L’Équipe reported that the governing body did not receive the final approval from the Chinese authorities to stage the event in Beijing.

The Chinese capital hosted the Trophée des Champions in 2014, while Shenzhen staged the match in 2018 and 2019.

The most recent Trophée des Champions (pictured) took place at the Parc des Princes, home of PSG, on January 3. PSG defeated Toulouse 2-0 in the match, which had originally been due to take place at Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok.

The LFP announced in December that the match would switch from Bangkok to Paris after its relationship with Thai promoter Fresh Air Festival broke down.

The previous two editions of the Trophée des Champions took place at Bloomfield Stadium in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv. Over the years, the match has also taken place in Canada, Morocco, Gabon, Tunisia, USA and Austria.
